Veterans

I am committed to fulfilling our nation’s promises made to the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our country. We owe it to these servicemembers and their families to effectively deliver the care and benefits they earned.
This means improving access and quality in VA health care, including mental health care. We need to work to better assist veterans as they transition into the civilian workforce, expanding education and training opportunities to position them for success in emerging and competitive fields.
We also have to prioritize veterans while tackling the housing crisis, ensuring they are connected to wraparound supports to help them successfully get into housing and stay there. I have called for robust funding for the Housing and Urban Development – Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH), which pairs rental assistance with case management and supportive services to help homeless veterans and their families into permanent housing and access the health care, mental health treatment, substance use counseling, and other supports necessary for their recovery process.
There are many ways in which I am working to improve the lives of veterans and their families in Oregon’s Sixth District. I have supported legislation to expand veterans' access to affordable housing and reproductive health care, improve home care services for elderly veterans, help more veterans afford college by expanding work study programs, and address veteran homelessness. If you’re a veteran who needs help working with a federal agency, please reach out to my office HERE and my team will be more than happy to assist you.
