Science, Space, and Technology

From computer chips to clean energy, Oregon is a hub of innovation and progress, and a focal point for oceanic and atmospheric research. Thousands of people who work in the tech industry live in Oregon’s Sixth District – and every single person in our community has their lives touched by technology.

I serve on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, where I am focused on ensuring that Oregonians are participating in and benefitting from the innovation economy of the future. Oregon’s sixth district is home to small tech, aerospace, and manufacturing businesses as well as 4-year teaching institutions, community, and technical colleges. These are the voices I seek to elevate within conversations on the future of Artificial Intelligence, Commercial Space, Clean Energy, and other industries of the future.

I have worked across the aisle to advance legislation on research and development in agriculture and clean energy, as well as legislation to improve education and workforce development for quantum science and artificial intelligence. This committee has a strong history of bipartisanship, and I will continue to work in a bipartisan manner to advance meaningful legislation to solve problems, drive innovation, and secure America’s future economic competitiveness.

However, I also recognize that the Trump Administration has pursued unprecedented attacks on the scientific enterprise in our country. Federal research investments drive innovation, create jobs, and protect our communities. Science is not a partisan issue — it’s about progress, economic opportunity, and ensuring a better future for all Americans. While we work to shape the innovation economy of tomorrow, I am fighting to protect the critical investments of today.
