Health Care

Health care is a human right, and I’m fighting to ensure all Americans can access the quality, affordable care they need and deserve.
I’m committed to bringing down costs for those who need it most, especially working families and seniors. Millions of Americans depend on Medicare and Medicaid for care, and we need to protect – not undermine – these programs. That’s why I cosponsored a bill to expand Medicare to cover dental, hearing, and vision. I am also thrilled that the Inflation Reduction Act provided Medicare the ability to negotiate certain drug prices, which will reduce costs for tens of thousands of older adults throughout Oregon.
I also understand that health care can only be as good as it is available. Too many areas, particularly our rural communities, have little to no access to quality, comprehensive care. I am committed to finding solutions to these care shortages, including legislation that would strengthen Community Health Centers and provide incentives for medical professionals to work in shortage areas. I also support multiple policies to close coverage gaps that leave patients without access to care, such as the Close the Medigap Act of 2023, which makes significant improvements to Medicare supplemental health insurance policies.
Most Americans understand that our private health care system is too complex, burdensome, and expensive. We should work to improve and expand programs like Medicare and Medicaid, while also reconsidering the nature of a profit-driven private health care industry. Americans deserve the highest quality health care our country can provide – and I will continue working to move us closer to that goal.
