Education
As a mom, I understand the importance of a strong public education system. From cradle to career, I am committed to supporting policies that make sure our education system works for everyone.
I strongly support providing federal funding for school districts throughout the country to provide curriculum that teaches critical thinking and important life skills. Congress must also do more to support our educators. Teachers should not be struggling to pay their bills due to inadequate salaries – they should be rewarded for choosing an educational career pathway by having access to student loan forgiveness.
Our education system must prepare students for the economy of the future. I have championed legislation that would improve access to educational pathways in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. I also recognize that attending a traditional four year college or university is not the right fit for everyone, nor is it necessary to have a successful career and meaningful work. I support increasing federal investments in career and technical education (CTE), as well as improving access to community colleges. Students need skills when they enter the workforce, and alternative higher education pathways can provide them.
No matter what education path our students choose, it must be affordable and free from crushing student loan debt. Congress should increase funding for student financial aid and allow for more flexible uses for college savings plans.
There’s more work to do, and ensuring that all students have access to affordable and flexible post-secondary education options – and a strong, effective public education system to prepare them – should be among our nation’s top priorities.
