Salinas Votes to Keep Government Open, Avoid Shutdown
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the continuing resolution to keep the government open and avoid a shutdown:
“As I have been saying for weeks, a government shutdown would be disastrous for the people of Oregon’s Sixth District and for our entire country. A shutdown would interrupt critical services and benefits for thousands of Oregonians, hurt our economy by delaying investments in Oregon’s semiconductor manufacturing industry, and prevent our servicemembers from getting paid. That is why I voted in favor of the continuing resolution to keep our government open and ensure working families can continue to put food on the table. At the same time, I recognize that this legislation is flawed. For starters, it does not include more assistance for Ukraine. We cannot abandon our allies, and I will continue working to ensure Ukraine gets the financial support they need to defend their democracy. The legislation also lacks additional funding to protect student loan borrowers—something I specifically called on leadership to include. While not perfect, it is my hope that by avoiding a shutdown today, we can work together to address these priorities and pass bipartisan, good-faith proposals that will fund the government through next year.”
