Salinas Statement on Vote Against FISA Reauthorization
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement after voting “no” on a bill to reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA):
“Current law allows the government to collect sensitive and personal information on private citizens without a warrant. That is blatantly unconstitutional, which is why I voted against reauthorizing Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) as it currently stands. I also voted for an amendment that would add a warrant requirement to Section 702. Protecting the right to privacy needs to be our top concern, and I am disappointed in President Biden and my colleagues for supporting such an unacceptable violation of Americans’ constitutional rights. I will continue to stand up for the rights of my constituents whenever they are being infringed.”
