Salinas Statement on Trump’s Harmful Tariffs

Salem, OR – Today, Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement after President Trump announced steep tariffs that will raise prices for working families and cripple our economy:  

“Oregonians are already struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table. Instead of working to make their lives better, President Trump is slapping families with even higher costs by imposing tariffs that will kill jobs, wreck our economy, and devastate local businesses.

From hazelnuts and berries to wood products and computer chips, Oregon’s economy relies heavily on exports. Trump's trade war could derail these and so many other vital industries – in addition to costing our state billions of dollars in lost revenue, cutting over 86,000 manufacturing and agriculture jobs, and raising the price of gas, groceries, utilities, and other necessities for consumers.

Let’s be clear: This is just another Republican Rip Off that will hurt working families in my district. President Trump needs to abandon this foolish scheme and start working with Congress on real solutions that will actually bring down costs.”
