Salinas Statement on Speaker Mike Johnson

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06) released the following statement after House Republicans voted to elect Rep. Mike Johnson as Speaker as the House:

“After 22 days of chaos and disarray, House Republicans have elected a MAGA extremist who voted to overturn the 2020 election as Speaker of the House. Mike Johnson has consistently supported legislation that would rip away Americans’ reproductive freedom and slash critical programs like Social Security and Medicare. I have deep concerns about Speaker Johnson’s ability to govern responsibly. Nevertheless, I am hopeful that the new Speaker will set aside his extreme views and work to find a bipartisan path forward. It is past time for Congress to get back to work for Oregonians and for the American people.”
