Salinas Statement on Continuing Resolution

September 20, 2024

Washington, DC On September 18, 2024, U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement on Speaker Johnson’s Continuing Resolution:

“We are once again staring down a government shutdown because of Speaker Johnson and his conference’s incompetence and refusal to govern. Instead of coming to the table with a serious proposal that would keep the government funded, Republicans have chosen to include poison pills, such as needless restrictions that would make it harder for deployed servicemembers and other American citizens living overseas to vote, and have refused to provide adequate funding for our veterans — guaranteeing that this Continuing Resolution will never become law.

I urge my colleagues on the other side of the aisle — those who are willing to set partisanship aside — to drop this ill-conceived attempt at holding the federal budget hostage. Should they do so, I would be happy to work with them on separate legislation that would protect the security and integrity of our elections from real threats.”
