Salinas Announces More Than $36 Million in Funding Requests for Community Projects in OR-06

April 19, 2023

Today, Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (D-Tigard) announced she is requesting more than $36 million in the fiscal year 2024 federal government funding legislation for critical public safety, housing, infrastructure, and rural development projects across Oregon’s sixth district.

“I’m so proud to announce my funding requests for fiscal year 2024,” said Rep. Salinas. “From the moment I took office, my team and I have been working tirelessly to get out into the community and hear directly from Oregonians about what they need. We’ve taken hundreds of meetings with constituents and stakeholders, all leading up to this moment when we can officially share our formal community project funding requests. From tackling the homelessness crisis to updating aging rural infrastructure, each of the projects we’re pursuing would meaningfully benefit hundreds of thousands of our neighbors. I’m grateful to all those who contributed to this process and look forward to championing these priorities in Congress.”

For FY24, Salinas is requesting federal funding for the following community projects:

  • $5,000,000 for HVAC modernization and upgrades in Washington County Congregate Care Facilities, which are vital for ongoing justice and rehabilitation services.
  • $4,000,000 for road construction and repair through a downtown corridor in McMinnville that intersects with Oregon Highway 99W at two significant intersections.
  • $3,589,200 for the Oregon Department of Transportation to design a new roundabout at the intersection of OR-99W and NE McDougall Rd/OR18 in Yamhill County, a high-speed, unsignalized intersection with a significant history of fatal crashes.
  • $3,589,200 for the Oregon Department of Transportation to construct two enhanced crossings in Tigard that will help reduce pedestrian injuries and fatalities.
  • $3,060,000 for addressing capacity and security concerns at the Salem Municipal Airport, including in common areas like baggage claim, passenger queueing areas, and waiting areas.
  • $3,000,000 for constructing a highway safety median along the McKay/Yergen/Ehlen Road Safety Corridor, a dangerous area that has seen many fatal crashes.
  • $2,858,625 for the construction of the Dayton Civic Center, a combined City Hall, Library, and Meeting Space that will improve Dayton’s ability to provide services to the community.
  • $2,550,375 for the replacement of approximately 3,800 feet of pipe in downtown Carlton, allowing the city to reduce wastewater and improve public health and safety.
  • $2,000,000 for designing and constructing a community center in Grand Ronde that will provide community services, a gathering place, and support for the health of members of the Grand Ronde Tribe.
  • $1,500,000 for design and construction of a bridge in Independence that is holding up additional road construction and housing development.
  • $1,500,000 for rural broadband expansion in Sherwood to improve economic development, health care, and education access in the area.
  • $1,500,000 for facility repairs and HVAC upgrades to the Tigard Emergency Heating and Cooling center, a critical service provider for unhoused people exposed to extreme weather.
  • $880,000 for replacing a 4" drinking water line in Independence with a 12" main, improving access to clean drinking water for Oregonians.
  • $725,000 for the construction of eight cottages in Newberg that will serve as transitional housing for Oregonians experiencing homelessness.
  • $300,000 to pay for a full-time Homeless Community Service Officer in Tigard, who will be tasked with monitoring encampments, connecting unhoused individuals with resources, and other important duties.
