Salem Veteran Rosy Macias to Join Representative Salinas for State of the Union Address

March 5, 2024

Washington, DC Today, U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas (OR-06) announced that she will be joined by Salem resident and veteran Rosy Macias for President Biden’s State of the Union Address to Congress on Thursday, March 7.

“I am so honored that a former U.S. Marine and longtime Salem resident, Rosy Macias, will join me as my guest for the State of the Union Address,” said Rep. Salinas. “Rosy has been a strong advocate for veterans in our community, specifically those who are experiencing homelessness, for more than 20 years. As the daughter of a Vietnam Veteran, I am proud to have Rosy by my side as we hear from the President about his top priorities and, hopefully, what the Administration and Congress can do to better support our brave men and women in uniform.”

“I’m excited to join Congresswoman Salinas as her guest for this year’s State of the Union Address,” said Rosy Macias. “Congresswoman Salinas has shown herself to be a true ally and advocate for Oregon veterans through her work to expand access to affordable housing, job training, health care, and more. I look forward to joining the Congresswoman tomorrow and hope to gain more insight into the President’s plan to help veterans like me.”

Rosy Macias was born in the Dominican Republic but spent most of her teen years living in Pennsylvania and New York City. She served in the United States Marines from 1995 to 1999 and the Marine Corps Reserve from 1999 to 2002. Rosy moved to Salem, Oregon, in 1999 and has been a strong advocate for local veterans ever since.

Rosy’s advocacy work focuses on building community and preventing veteran homelessness in and around the Salem area. She has been a board member of Serving Our Veterans at Home (SOVAH), a local nonprofit that provides health care, housing, employment, and other critical services for veterans and their families, since 2009. Rosy also serves as Vice President of the Women Marines Association – Portland Chapter, Women Veterans Chairperson for VFW Post 661, Veterans Engagement Director of Team Red White and Blue – Salem Chapter, and as a member of the Marion Polk YMCA Board of Directors and Courtney Place Veterans Housing Board.
