Representative Salinas on UAW Strike

“I stand firmly with the United Auto Workers members currently on strike – including those who live and work in Oregon’s Sixth District.

“When the federal government bailed out the Big Three in 2008, the UAW agreed to temporarily freeze their wages and forgo certain pension and health care benefits to keep these manufacturers afloat. Their sacrifice saved the auto industry from certain collapse. Yet, these workers were never made whole.

“That kind of greed is intolerable. It is why I’m proudly in solidarity with my UAW brothers and sisters, and will be until their struggle is won. We must restore fairness for all workers in Oregon and across the United States. We are in this together.”

Oregon’s Sixth District includes the Stellantis Facility in Beaverton, where UAW Local 492 members are currently on strike.
