Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement on the ICE Shooting in Minneapolis
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement following the ICE shooting in Minneapolis.
“Today, ICE shot and killed a U.S. citizen. Make no mistake, this was a preventable tragedy that was the direct result of ICE’s violent and inhumane treatment of immigrants and U.S. citizens.
“This is not the first such shooting, and without accountability it will not be the last.
“In my district, and in communities across the country, we’ve watched as ICE has acted with impunity, terrorizing residents and sowing chaos. This is not how we make our streets safer.
“Today’s shooting only underscores my calls for greater transparency and oversight for how ICE agents are trained. It’s clear they do not have a proper grasp of how to peacefully interact with the public or follow the U.S. Constitution.
“I’ll keep using every tool at my disposal to ensure full transparency and accountability. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, we watched as Kristi Noem and other Trump officials tried to lie and spin this story. I do not trust that DHS or the FBI under Kash Patel will conduct an honest investigation of what happened. As such, we need to work with state and local law enforcement to hold ICE and all those accountable for this needless tragedy.”
