Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement on the Anniversary of the January 6th Attack on the Capitol
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement recognizing the fifth anniversary of the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“Five years ago, Donald Trump incited a violent insurrection to stop the peaceful transition of executive power and falsely declare himself the winner of the 2020 presidential election. January 6th will always be remembered as one of the darkest days of our democratic republic.
“In the five years since, Republicans have attempted to re-write history and deny the motivation and the mastermind behind the events of that horrific day. Acknowledging January 6th as anything less than what it was—a violent attack on our democracy—is an insult to the hundreds of law enforcement officers who stood to protect our Capitol and to the millions of voters who made their voices heard in the 2020 election.
“The rule of law must apply to everyone, and the person in the oval office is not a monarch. You cannot say you stand for law and order and then turn your backs on the same officers who defend the same constitution that you were also elected to defend. We cannot forget that on January 6th or any other day.”
