Congresswoman Salinas Cosponsors Legislation to Restore Abortion Access Across U.S.

March 30, 2023

Today, Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (D-Tigard) issued the following statement after she helped reintroduce the Women’s Health Protection Act:

“I'm proud to be an original cosponsor of the Women's Health Protection Act, legislation that would restore the right to access an abortion in all fifty states. In the nine months since the catastrophic Dobbs decision, thirteen states have completely outlawed abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. Five others have severely restricted it. And six more are pursuing all-out bans of their own. This patchwork of draconian laws has forced many of those who need an abortion to flee their home states, often at great financial and emotional cost. Meanwhile, anti-choice politicians are enacting policies that criminalize doctors, nurses, and clinicians who offer abortion care, forcing them to cancel appointments, shutter their doors, and, in some cases, retire from medicine altogether. The unscientific attacks on reproductive freedom are only getting worse – and they are straining our entire health care system, whether you live in a state that permits abortion or not. That’s why it’s so critical that we pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and restore abortion access for all. We must not settle for anything less.”
