Congresswoman Salinas Appointed to Democratic Women’s Caucus Leadership
Today, Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (D-Tigard) was appointed to serve in Democratic Women’s Caucus leadership. Salinas will take on the role of official liaison between the Democratic Women’s Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, where she also fills a leadership role as Freshman Representative. Read Salinas’ full statement:
“I’m deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve the Democratic Women’s Caucus in a leadership role. As the liaison between two key caucuses, I welcome the chance to ensure that Latinas have their priorities represented at decision-making tables – and I do not take that responsibility lightly. Today, there are more than 30 million Hispanic women in America, yet there are just 19 of us in Congress. We can’t allow that disparity to prevent us from having our voices heard, creating opportunities, and moving our communities forward. From the fight to expand affordable child care to the fight to build a pathway to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients, Latinas have been on the frontlines of so many key issues throughout our history. Moving forward, I will fight with all I have to ensure our community is heard in Washington D.C., and that we as Latinas can continue to shape the fabric and future of our country.”
