Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement in Response to the State of the Union

February 24, 2026

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s State of the Union address.

“I chose not to attend the State of the Union. The State of the Union is supposed to be a serious event that gives an accurate assessment of the state of our country. I refused to participate when President Trump made a mockery of it by spreading partisan lies to advance his dangerous and harmful agenda. That’s exactly what we saw tonight as he tried to cover for the fact that his presidency has been a failure since day one.

“President Trump’s tariffs have raised costs for working families across Oregon. His Big Ugly Bill slashed SNAP and Medicaid. His immigration enforcement has spread fear and violence among the communities he promised to protect. His Department of Justice is protecting sexual abusers and pedophiles. At every turn, Trump has trampled on the Constitution and the rule of law, all while making Oregonians’ lives worse.

“Oregonians deserve leaders who will fight to lower costs and make life more affordable. That’s what I’m doing in Congress, and I will keep holding this Administration fully accountable.”
