Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement in Response to Federal Courts Pausing President Trump’s Deployment of the National Guard to Oregon

October 4, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued to following statement in response to federal courts issuing a temporary restraining order pausing President Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to Portland.

“Today, the court issued a win for the people of Oregon and the rule of law by pausing the deployment of troops to Portland.

“This decision affirms what many of us have known all along — that there is no basis for the Trump Administration to federalize the National Guard. Despite Trump and his Administration’s abuses of power, this ruling maintains that Trump cannot infringe on Oregonians’ freedom to protest peacefully, to govern ourselves, and to move through our own communities without fear.

“While this ruling is not final, it is a meaningful step in defending our rights and our safety as Oregonians. I’m grateful to Attorney General Rayfield, Governor Kotek, and all of our partners on the local, state, and federal level for their work to hold the line against the Trump Administration’s abuses of power.”
