Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement Following DHS Spending Bill Vote
Washington, D.C. – Tonight, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) issued the following statement following House Republicans' passage of a 60-day continuing resolution to fund the Department of Homeland Security.
"Tonight, House Republicans had a choice. They could have funded TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard with the bill that all 100 Senators agreed on and sent to the House. These agencies keep travelers safe, respond to disasters, and protect our shores. Instead, Republicans chose to throw a tantrum and write another blank check to ICE and CBP with zero accountability measures attached.
“Their solution is dead on arrival in the Senate, and instead of working to end the chaos at our airport, pay workers at TSA, FEMA, or the Coast Guard, House Republicans will continue to force TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard to work without pay.
"Republicans already handed over $150 billion to ICE and CBP in their Big, Ugly Bill, all while cutting Medicaid and food assistance for Oregon families. Now they want 60 more days of the same: more money, no guardrails, no consequences for the agents who have detained U.S. citizens, violated due process, and terrorized our communities.
"This is a deliberate choice. Democrats have been clear about what we need to fund DHS, including body cameras, use-of-force rules, an end to warrantless arrests, and basic civil rights oversight. None of that is in the House Republicans’ bill. Not one accountability measure. Just a two-month extension of the status quo.
"I will not vote to rubber-stamp unchecked enforcement. The American people want safe communities and real accountability. Republicans need to come to the negotiating table to pass a bill that actually ends this crisis."
