Rep. Andrea Salinas’ Statement on Appeals Court Allowing for Trump’s Deployment of the Oregon National Guard
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) released the following statement regarding the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that allows President Trump to deploy federalized Oregon National Guard troops to Portland:
“I am deeply disappointed in the 9th Circuit's ruling, which allows President Trump to deploy the Oregon National Guard to Portland. Inflatable frogs and unicorns can’t pass the laugh test, much less the threshold for evidence of a rebellion that would necessitate the National Guard.
“If allowed to stand, this ruling clears the way for the President to deploy the National Guard for any reason, no matter how comical–or dangerous–it may be. I would echo the calls of Judge Graber to ‘act swiftly to vacate the majority’s order before the illegal deployment of troops under false pretenses can occur.’
“President Trump is looking for a fight, and the frogs won’t give him one. But we all have a right to live in a safe and peaceful community, without provocation from our own federal government.”
